Jimmy Smith is a jazz organist who helped to popularize the Hammond B-3. He revolutionized the way in which this instrument could be played. He started recording in 1956 for Blue Note Records and then signed to Verve Records in 1962. His playing became funkier from the late 60s to the early 80s.
